PrestaShop 9.2 was released on 30 September 2026. Its three main new features are one-page checkout, Ask AI (an AI assistant built into the back office) and Extra Properties, which lets you add your own fields to products, customers and orders.
Whether the upgrade is worth it depends on the version your shop runs today. From 9.0 or 9.1 it is a minor update; from 1.7 or 8 it is a major version change. This post sums up what 9.2 brings, what to watch with one-page checkout and Ask AI, and how much work the move is from each version.
Not a technical person? In plain English: do I need to upgrade now?
A new version of PrestaShop is out. Its biggest change is that customers can complete an order on a single page instead of clicking through four steps. It also has a built-in AI assistant you can ask about your shop in plain words, inside the admin.
If your shop runs on one of the two previous versions, the upgrade is a smaller job. If it runs on an older one, it is a bigger move where the theme and the modules have to be checked too.
There is no need to rush: it is worth trying the upgrade on a test copy first. The questions below can be sent to whoever maintains the shop.
Questions for the person who maintains the shop
Which PrestaShop version and which PHP version does our shop run on? How much work would an upgrade to PrestaShop 9.2 be, and can we try it on a test copy first? Is our theme based on Hummingbird or Classic, and would our payment and shipping modules work with the one-page checkout?
What was released on 30 September 2026?
PrestaShop 9.2.0 came out as a stable release on 30 September 2026, after the July beta and the release candidate (RC) of 21 September. As of 22 October 2026 there is no 9.2.1 or other patch release yet; work on the 9.2.x branch continues.
9.2 is a minor version: according to the developer documentation it strives to stay backward compatible with 9.1.x and only introduces breaking changes when absolutely necessary.
- 30 Sep 2026 release of 9.2.0
- PHP 8.1–8.5 what 9.2 runs on
- 7.6.6 Update Assistant version for 9.2
What does one-page checkout do?
One-page checkout (ps_onepagecheckout) is a native module in the 9.2 bundle that brings the whole order onto one page. You turn it on in the back office under Design > Checkout by choosing the “One-page checkout” layout. No extra purchase or installation is needed, and according to PrestaShop it comes at no additional cost.
- Guest checkout: an e-mail address is enough to get started.
- No page reloads: when the customer changes the delivery address, the carrier list refreshes in place.
- Downloadable products: if the cart holds only virtual or downloadable products, shipping address and carrier selection are skipped; only the billing address is asked.
- Abandoned carts: abandoned cart recovery keeps working with one-page checkout.
- Multistore: the checkout layout can be chosen per shop.
- Switching back: the four-step checkout stays, and you can switch back at any time on the same screen.
According to PrestaShop it works out of the box on themes built from Hummingbird, while Classic themes are not supported by default: there some of the module’s templates have to be overridden. Payment and shipping modules are worth testing in the one-page flow too before the shop turns it on live.
What is Ask AI for, and what does it need?
Ask AI is a chat assistant in the back office. You can ask it about your shop’s data in plain language and also trigger actions with it. It asks for approval before changing anything in the shop.
It is powered by the PrestaShop MCP Server, so you connect the AI provider of your choice (for example ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini) with your own API key. Ask AI is part of the PrestaShop “Classic” edition, the download that also includes PrestaShop’s own modules.
The release notes do not say exactly what data is sent to the chosen AI provider. Before turning it on, it is worth reading the provider’s data processing terms, especially if the assistant will be asked about customer data.
What else is new in 9.2?
- Extra Properties: your own fields on products, combinations, customers and orders, per language and per shop; the merchant can create them under Advanced Parameters > Extra Properties. The developer documentation still marks the code as experimental.
- Klaviyo: the Classic edition includes the Klaviyo integration for automated e-mail and SMS campaigns.
- New product conditions: open box, damaged and new with defects, next to new, used and refurbished.
- Image fitting: each image type can use Fit, Crop or Bound.
- Structured data: PrestaShop itself now renders the product page data meant for search engines (JSON-LD), extended with product features and shop contact details.
- Theme: 9.2 ships with Hummingbird 2.1.2; Hummingbird has been the default theme for new installations since 9.1.
How much work is the upgrade from each version?

| Version | PHP | Path to 9.2 | Last release, support |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9.1 | 8.1–8.5 | minor update (Update Assistant 7.6.6) | 9.1.5 (18 Aug 2026), the last planned |
| 9.0 | 8.1–8.4 | minor update (Update Assistant 7.6.6) | 9.0.3 (3 Feb 2026) |
| 8.0–8.2 | up to 8.1 | major version change | 8.2 gets security and critical fixes only, until PrestaShop 10.0.0 is released; 8.1’s last is 8.1.7 (24 Jun 2024) |
| 1.7 | typically 7.x or 8.1 | major version change | 1.7.8.11 (2 Jan 2024) |
Version 9 is a bigger step: PrestaShop 9 is built on Symfony 6.4 instead of 4.4, several hooks (the points where modules connect) were removed in 9.0, and so was the legacy product page. For e-mail sending the encryption options are now TLS or none; SSL was removed. According to PrestaShop some modules and themes may need updates.
The Update Assistant (formerly 1-Click Upgrade) disables non-native modules by default, and since version 7.6.0 it also uninstalls modules that are not compatible with the target version. You cannot upgrade from a beta or RC to the final 9.2; that needs a fresh installation.
Does the PHP vulnerability mean upgrading PrestaShop now?
These are two separate tasks. On 21 October 2026 two critical PHP vulnerabilities were published; they are fixed by updating PHP, not PrestaShop. PrestaShop’s own notice says upgrading PrestaShop is a longer-term topic, not an emergency fix for them, and a major upgrade should not be rushed.
The PHP issue and the steps to take with your host are covered in a separate post: Security flaw in PrestaShop shops: what to do
What to check before upgrading?
- Backup: of the files and the database, before you start.
- Test copy: PrestaShop recommends trying the upgrade in a staging environment before the live shop.
- Modules and theme: check that each has a version compatible with 9.2; test payment and shipping modules separately with one-page checkout.
- Server: PrestaShop 9 needs PHP 8.1 or newer, at least MySQL 5.7 or MariaDB 10.2, and a
memory_limitof at least 512 MB is recommended. PHP 8.2 reaches end of life on 31 December 2026.
What should you do now?
- Check the version: the back office page Advanced Parameters > Information shows the PrestaShop and PHP versions.
- If PHP is 8.1 or older: ask your host whether it gets security fixes (this is separate from the PrestaShop upgrade).
- If the shop runs on 9.0 or 9.1: try the 9.2 update on a test copy and turn on one-page checkout there with your own payment and shipping modules.
- If it runs on 1.7 or 8: plan the move to PrestaShop 9 (theme, modules, data) with a test copy, without rushing.
- Before Ask AI: check the data processing terms of the AI provider you choose.
